Happy Birthday Shawn. Even though you're no longer with us, you're a huge inspiration on my playing. I can always pick up my iPod/turn on my CD player and instantly be compelled to listen to you more and more. You're playing was unique and you could outplay just about anyone, both with melody and speed. Somehow I managed to play some stuff I've been struggling with for awhile now at blazing speeds and I'd like to think you're looking down on me and giving me that little bit of extra mojo. Thanks for being such an inspiration man.

In generations to come Shawn Lane will be celebrated as a musical genius. I'm sure they'll dedicate seperate schools of thought to study the way he approached music - not only as an instrumentalist but also a composer. Indeed his life has parallels with musical greats (Bach, Mozart, etc...) in that they were never really appreciated in there generation. Speaking as a guitarist I believe he is that good. I am truly honored to have lived in his time. You left a big gaping hole in humanity when you left. RIP Shawn Lane The Great 🙂

Shawn's cousins down in Bear Creek, AL(Rusty Fortner and Kris Fortner) turned me on to Powers of Ten back when it had first released. I liked it then, but didn't listen to it much again until recently. It's all I want to listen to now. I love seeing the videos on youtube and I wish I could have met Shawn and seen him play live. Talent!

I discovered Shawn a year or so ago now...... he really was a prodigy child and musical genius in general. I personally thought that his compositional skills were one of his greatest traits. im 17 and ive been playing guitar for about 6 years now and my discovery of Shawn was one of the most significant milestones in my guitar playing history. To me he is something different.... unique....... a completely other world to the likes of Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert etc (each of whom i still adore :)....... but Shawn's choice of notes and expressive techniques is quite profound....... i suppose u could call it his "technique vocabulary"! Wen i watch the video of him playing "Illusions", for some reason i feel a great loss....... ive felt it with Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn.......now with the legendary "Shawn Lane".... May your soaring melodies be influential in years to come..... thanks Shawn 🙂
